Music therapy referrals are reviewed within the practice. Clients are then matched with the most appropriate therapist based on clinical need and availability.
Sessions may be delivered by Brooke or by an associate music therapist working within the same clinical framework.
Once allocated, the therapist will lead the sessions and remain the primary contact for day-to-day therapeutic work.
Associate music therapists are HCPC-registered professionals who work within the practice framework and engage in regular clinical supervision and continuing professional development.
All enquiries are received directly through the practice and reviewed by Brooke. Basic information is gathered to understand presenting needs and determine suitability for music therapy.
A referral and consent form is completed to gather relevant background information, including presenting needs, goals for therapy, and any relevant medical or educational context.
3. Therapist Allocation
A suitable music therapist is allocated to the client and introductions are made. The allocated therapist arranges assessment session with the client.
The assessment session includes:
a discussion between the referrer and the therapist to explore music therapy outcomes and discuss client's needs in more depth.
observing the client in their usual environment, such as home, school or care setting
practical music therapy assessment
Following assessment, therapist provides a review detailing music therapy outcomes identified in the assessment.
At this stage, the most appropriate therapist within the practice is allocated to begin ongoing work.
The therapist begins delivering sessions. The therapist becomes the primary practitioner for ongoing therapeutic work, within the wider clinical oversight of the practice.
The practice maintains ongoing oversight of therapeutic work through scheduled review points. These take place approximately every 4 weeks in the early stages of therapy, and then at 12-week intervals thereafter. Reviews are conducted with the referrer to consider progress, goals, and ongoing suitability of therapy.
